Synopsis

The Tempest for Kids written by Lois Burdett, adapted by Megan West with original music by Rob Broadhurst

Prospero and his teenage daughter, Miranda live on a remote island. Their only companions are Ariel, a magical spirit and island native, Caliban. Prospero was originally Duke of Milan, but his position was usurped by his brother Antonio.

The play opens with Antonio, Alonso, and several of their retainers on a ship in a great storm, the tempest. Unbeknownst to them, the storm is the work of Prospero, who aims to shipwreck them on his island. Washed ashore, Prospero plans to regain his position as Duke of Milan. Join us as we watch Prospero use magic and trickery to succeed in restoring his dukedom

This family-friendly and accessible musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic is written in rhyming couplets and performed by STC School of the Arts Pre-Professional Ensemble and Young Professionals Conservatory students.

This Pre-Professional Ensemble program serves students ages 7 to 13 and culminates in a full-length production on STC’s stages. These workshops, taught by professional directors & actors, offer students the experience of participating in a fully-produced play with sets, costumes, and lighting, as well as performance and collaboration skills as they work together to tell great story.
