Synopsis

Join us for this introduction to acting with Janis Stevens. We hope you’ll join us for this brand new class!

 

Classes take place on Sundays from 6:00-8:00pm at Sacramento Theatre Company. Classes begin on March 6th, 2022 and end on May 1st, 2022 with a final performance for friends and family. There is NO class on Easter (4/17). The full 7-week session is $250.

About Janis Stevens:

JANIS STEVENS received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the Professional Actor Training Program at Ohio University.  She studied with such acting teachers as Morris Carnovsky (one of the founding members of the famed Group Theatre), Peter Donat at San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theatre and Brewster Mason of the Royal Shakespeare Company.  Janis spent her early career working in Vienna, Austria, at Vienna’s English Theatre and the International Theatre Company.  Nationally she has appeared in numerous plays at the Theatre at Monmouth in Maine where she is a member of the Resident Company and at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, playing such classic roles as Lady Macbeth, Cleopatra, Beatrice in “Much Ado About Nothing”, Kate in “The Taming of the Shrew”, Paulina in “The Winter’s Tale” and Dorine in “Tartuffe”.  Her regional and local credits include work at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, TheatreWorks in Palo Alto, Sierra Repertory Theatre in Sonora and in Sacramento at the California Stage, B Street Theatre, Capital Stage and Sacramento Theatre Company. Recent roles at STC include Clairee in “Steel Magnolias”, Amanda in “The Glass Menagerie”, and the title role in “Driving Miss Daisy”.  Janis is a 2006 Drama Desk Award Nominee for “Outstanding Solo Performance” for her portrayal of Vivien Leigh in Rick Foster’s “Vivien” at the American Theatre of Actors off-off-Broadway. She received Elly Awards from the Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance for Best Dramatic Actress in 2006 for her performance as the architect Julia Morgan in “Becoming Julia Morgan” and in 2019 for her portrayal of Dorothea Puente in “Dorothea Puente Tells All” — both at California Stage. Janis is a proud member of Actors Equity and very proud Adjunct Professor of Theatre Arts at American River College.
