At Sacramento Theatre Company, Big Day of Giving Means Community!

The Big Day of Giving is here and that means you’re probably getting a TON of solicitiations just like this one in your inbox. Big Day of Giving has helped 700+ area nonprofits raise $78 million and we are so grateful to be part of this coordinated effort to make our region thrive!

Everything we do at STC radiates from our passion for the arts and our commitment to sharing our passion of the arts with our entire community and our community partnership program has allowed us to work with some of the most incredible nonprofits in the Sacramento area.

This season gave us the opportunity to partner with the Society for the Blind. The Society partnered with us not only on advising the lead actress in Wait Until Dark on how to safely and accurately portray a blind woman, but also allowed us to have audio descriptive services for added accessiblity for live theatre as well as programs done in braille.

Part of our mission of integrating professional theatre with theatre arts education is promoting literacy in our youngest theatregoers and for Seussical the Musical, we

worked together with our audiences to have a book drive for The Sacramento Children’s Home. Over the performances of Seussical, we were able to collect over 140 books and were able to donate them to the Sacramento Children’s Home’s library for families.

On the flipside of that, STC has been impacted by hardships this year, including a small but devestating fire that left our complex without power for six weeks. In addition, a break in of our warehouse where vital pieces if equipment were stolen would have made our productions impossible without the vital help of a few caring friends.

Our fellow professional theatre companies answered our call for help. B Street TheatreBroadway at Music Circus, and Capital Stage all lent us a helping hand and the tools we needed to make sure that our season could continue as planned and we are so grateful to our theatre community that we can turn to in need. Live theatre in Sacramento is so vital and we encourage you to support these organizations as well as STC.

Thank you all who have donated thus far to make Big Day of Giving at STC the best yet. Our community is what makes STC thrive and thank you for helping us create environments where everyone feels safe, respected and welcomed. You can donate to STC by clicking here.
