5-Star Review of Julius Caesar in SN&R

Sacramento News & Review loves our production of Julius Caesar, calling it “inventive” and “compelling.” Read Full Review

STC’s production applies a modern concept to this classic text: The Roman Republic was a place where money and politics were nearly synonymous, and comparisons between pre-Empire Rome and modern America are easy to make. The production examines what the new American oligarchy might look like in the very near future–a place where the amount of money required to run a successful campaign requires a politician to be a commercial “brand,” and a time where the line between popular celebrity and politics is entirely blurred. In the spirit of the diverse parties represented in America’s modern political system, the roles of Cassius and Casca (traditionally played by men) are played by women in this production, in line with STC’s commitment to non-traditional casting.
