Sacramento Theatre Company’s legacy rests in its history.  The Eaglet Theatre (today's Main Stage) opened on October 18th, 1949 -- 100 years to the day that its namesake The Eagle Theatre, the very first theatre built in California, opened its doors on the Sacramento waterfront of 1849. 

Sacramento Theatre Company was founded on a dream, a shoe string, hard work and a desire to give Sacramento and its region a native theatre.  This theatre has carried on since its inception with a dual purpose: to entertain in its theatre and to offer theatre arts courses in its School of the Arts.

The Sacramento Theatre Company is a vital asset to the Sacramento Region.  It is one of the signs of a healthy progressive city.  It is a beacon of attraction for new residents and new businesses.  Every step we take forward is a step for the whole community.
