About STC
Conveniently located in downtown Sacramento, STC presents only the best classical and modern plays.
Welcome to the Sacramento Theatre Company!
We are a nationally recognized professional theatre company. As one of the oldest and largest arts institutions in the region, STC presents only the best classical and modern plays.
We offer something for everyone. From September to June, our theaters feature eight performances each week, for a total of more than 300 each year.
We Entertain, Educate, Inspire, and Enrich. Our award-winning productions, education, and outreach programs reach over 60,000 each year. There’s nothing else quite like great professional theatre!
The Mainstage seats 292 patrons in three sections surrounding the stage. Each seat offers audience members clear views and a “front row” feel. Acoustics are top-notch. Our spacious lobby offers fun food and a bar with a variety of fine wines and beverages.
The Pollock Stage is an intimate 85-seat theatre featuring a number of new works and productions in development. With only three rows of seats, the audience feels a part of the action on stage.
Sacramento Theatre Company History
In 1942 – in the midst of WWII – a group of committed Sacramento citizens were looking for ways to entertain the troops. Following a successful tour of local military bases, they formed the Sacramento Civic Repertory Theatre. On October 18, 1949, they expanded by opening the Eaglet Theatre, today known as the Sacramento Theatre Company Mainstage.
